IMMINENT CHANGES TO AUSTRALIAN
RETIREMENT VISA SYSTEM !
On 1st of
July there will be a change in the Australian retirement
visas. Any successful applications for retirement visas made
prior to 1 July will qualify for a four year visa and now
new four year renewal extensions. The Australian government
has advised that the present retirement visas will cease
from the 1st of July but there is not yet any information
available if any other system will replace it.
Historically the requirements
have generally increased. To qualify for a retirement visa
an applicant must be over 55 years of age have AUD $ 870,000
available for transfer or less if you have a substantial
pension, take out Australian medical insurance and have a
clean police record. The opportunity to obtain a retirement
visa enables you to spend as much time as frequently as you
wish in Australia. It also gives you permission to work for
up to 20 hours per week.
There are other possibilities if you
have family in Australia that apply to a retirement visa and
also through accelerated parent visas which provide an
immediate path to permanent residency.
